What is a CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation so that the farmland becomes, either legally or spiritually, the community's farm, with the growers and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production.  https://www.nal.usda.gov/afsic/community-supported-agriculture

2019 CSA seasons

Spring : March 28th - June 13th
Summer: June 20th - September 5th
Fall : September 12th - December 5th (There will be no delivery on Thanksgiving week)

We are offering a weekly CSA share running three 12-week seasons for a total of 36 weeks. Each week we will harvest an assortment of vegetables from our farm and put together a share for you and our other CSA members. All food in your share will be grown by us and on our land following the practices mentioned in our mission statement. We had to increase our price a little due to the increasing price of seeds the last few years. Please let us know if you have any concerns or questions about this!

Half Share (1-2 people): $300 per season
Full Share (3-4 people, or 1-2 strict vegetarians): $550 per season

*Delivery fee to El Portal, Yosemite Valley, and Foresta is an extra $5 / week
*Delivery fee to Lush Meadows and Bootjack is an extra $3/week
*Delivery fee to Midpines is an extra $2/week
*The price above is for one season only

If for some reason we are not able to get you your share one week (due to a natural disaster, road closure, etc), we will gladly increase your share size another week to make up for it! We will always do our best to figure out how to get you your food every week. Pick-up at the farm is always an option too.

Buying a CSA is not just paying for food. Through the purchase of our CSA you are also investing in:

  • Food production that builds soil, promotes biodiversity, and keeps pesticides and herbicides out of the soil

  • Reducing the carbon footprint of your food chain

  • Helping your farmers earn a “living wage”

  • Joining a community that shares your values

  • Investing in your local food economy

  • Committing to your personal health

About Raw Roots Farm

Raw Roots Farm is a small, 4-acre vegetable and fruit farm located in the Sierra Nevada foothill town of Catheys Valley. The farm is run by Andrew and Lauren Glikin who sustainably manage a local, ecologically focused, naturally-grown, no-till community farm that produces enough food to support around 55 members for their CSA, and then many more families through farmer's market and house sales. Raw Roots Farm also sells directly to local restaurants in Mariposa and Merced. The farm runs year round and produces a diverse quantity of crops that are compatible with the seasonal climate they are grown in. The food is sold at local farmer’s markets and on the farm directly through a community shared agriculture (CSA) program. Raw Roots Farm also serves as a space to share and teach sustainable living practices like natural building, solar technology, grey water systems, and many more.

Our CSA Serves:
Bootjack, Darrah, Lushmeadows, Mariposa, Midpines, El Portal, Yosemite Valley, and Tuolumne and Hodgdon Meadows (summer season only, mid-June through September approximately).

What will I get? Each box of produce and bag of fruit will vary from week to week depending on regional and local seasonal availability. The size of the box is three gallons and approximately supplies two adults with veggies for most of the week. If you cook (and like vegetables or are committed to improving your diet), you will have no problem using your box. The boxes come with a flyer with recipe ideas and other food information. Boxes are $22.50 weekly
or $24.50 every other month. Fruit and eggs are optional at $10/bag and $6.50/dozen respectively.

How do I start? Call, or email us the week  before you would like to start. There is a $15 non-refundable, one-time start fee. We will set up an on-going subscription for you, which can be changed via your online account, or by contacting us. Deliveries are on Tuesday and you leave out your empty box so it can be exchanged for a full one. You may receive deliveries as often as you like and may stop and start for any reason (vacation, summer garden, work schedule, etc.). If you need to cancel a delivery, you can do so online, or by calling, or emailing a week ahead to receive a credit towards future deliveries
