Yosemite Zero Landfill InitiativE

In 2015 Subaru of America partnered with three National Parks, Grand Teton National Park, Denali National Park and Preserve, and Yosemite National Park, as part of the Subaru sponsored Zero Landfill Initiative. An average 4 million people visit Yosemite annually, supplying 2,200 tons of waste to Mariposa Solid Waste & Recycling each year, prior to the launch of ZLI. Since the project began, the three national parks combined have reduced their environmental footprint by diverting 16 million pounds of waste from their local landfills!

Yosemite Conservancy has supported Yosemite’s ZLI efforts for years, and this year took on a leadership role by hiring a Zero Landfill and Sustainability Coordinator. Tina Goehring is working closely with National Park Service, Yosemite Hospitality, Mariposa County, and other partners to pursue projects that advance environmental sustainability in the park and help move Yosemite toward zero-waste status.
